GREYSTEEL COACHING FACULTY

GREYSTEEL'S TEAM OF HEALTH AND COACHING PROFESSIONALS

IS SECOND TO NONE.

Jonathon Sullivan MD, PhD, SSC, PBC

Founder & Director

Greysteel Strength and Conditioning

Jonathon Sullivan is the founder, Program Director, and head coach of Greysteel Strength and Conditioning in Farmington Hills, MI. Dr. Sullivan is a former United States Marine, and has been engaged in various forms of strength training and martial arts practice for his entire adult life.

His book with Coach Andy Baker, The Barbell Prescription: Strength Training for Life After Forty, the most extensive and detailed work of its type in print, which includes over 400 citations from the biomedical literature, was published in 2016. He developed the online nutrition program, GreyPlate, which is available on this site. He is also the creator of GreyKata, a karate kata program for seniors.

Dr. Sullivan retired from clinical emergency medicine at Detroit Receiving Hospital and brain injury research in 2018, and now devotes himself full time to delivering exercise medicine to an aging population.

Georgia Young DNAP, CRNA, PBC

Greysteel Coach and Associate Director

Dr Georgia Young  is a coach at Greysteel Strength and Conditioning in Farmington, MI, specializing in training people over 50. Dr. Young and Dr. Sullivan worked together in the Emergency Department during the Cretaceous period, before she went on to take a doctorate in nurse anesthesia. She currently works as a nurse anesthetist and is a professor of graduate physiology at Wayne State University. Dr. Young considers strength coaching as an extension of her over-25-year career as a health care provider and educator.

Dr. Young particularly enjoys working with older clients with mobility and health challenges, helping them find ways to train around these issues. She is especially interested in helping post-menopausal women discover how empowering strength training can be. When she is not busy working as an anesthetist, teaching graduate students, or coaching, she loves to travel, hike, take on construction projects that she has no business doing and hang out with her many grandkids. She thinks people get more interesting, complex, and fabulous as they age, and loves working with athletes of aging.

Mali Multani, MD

Greysteel Coach

Dr. Mali Multani is a physician, board-certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Care, and served as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at UCLA. She has over 30years of experience in academic and clinical geriatric medicine. In her geriatric practice, she specialized in reducing polypharmacy, preventing falls, managing psychotropic drugs with gradual dose reduction (GDR), reducing hospital readmissions, and providing exceptional palliative and hospice care.

After retiring from academic medicine, Dr. Multani discovered the The Barbell Prescription: Strength Training for Life After 40, and as a geriatric physician she found the concept of strength training for older adults intriguing and began her own program. Inspired by the incredible results in herself, her daughter, and her son, Mali passionately promoted strength training to her extended family. She completed a geriatric strength coaching fellowship under Dr. Jonathon Sullivan at Greysteel, and now has her own coaching service at the Greysteel clinic. Her new professional mission is  to combine her medical and coaching expertise to deliver powerful strength training medicine to an aging population, enhancing health and quality of life.

Subash Sriram

Greysteel Coaching Fellow

Subash Sriram is a mechanical engineer by profession and has been a disciple of the barbell under the tutelage of Dr. Sullivan since 2017.

At a Greysteel Christmas party, while discussing the nature of violence (as one does at such parties) Dr. Sullivan directed Subash to the Israeli self-defense system of Krav Maga at Krav Maga Detroit (KMD). In 2020, Subash became an instructor at KMD and fell in love with leading people through their own physical, mental and spiritual journey of learning self-defense.

Subash’s passion for teaching and desire to spread the forging power of strength training, led him to start coaching family and friends, including his Mother-in-Law. He started interning at Greysteel in 2023. Subash finds fulfillment in meeting and coaching the people at Greysteel from all walks of life:  young, old and everyone in between, each with their own strengths, battle scars, and life wisdom.

Caroline Kalvaitis

Greysteel Coaching Fellow

"In 2021,  the trajectory of my life changed in an instant.  A high speed head-on collision and subsequent surgery, left me bedridden for months followed by months of physical therapy. Once therapy ended, my new limitations were difficult to train around on my own. Struggling with weakness, imbalance, adjusting to permanent damage and changes to my body, along with the fear of falling, sent me searching for a trainer to help restore my life. I found Greysteel and have never looked back. The journey of lifting barbells and the restoration of strength manifests itself in many positive ways beyond the gym. As a coach, I strive to bring the same to you."
